Birthday Party Activity Ideas

If you are planning a kids birthday party at home and want to keep your budget low, you can still have an awesome and unforgettable birthday party. Here are some great birthday party activities and ideas. Of course I recommend Super Treasure Hunt for an unforgettable and affordable birthday party (8 and older). These favorites are also great every time.

Kids Olympics - Events can include:

  • Water balloon or egg toss - The players spread out, forming 2 lines, with team-mates facing each other. They must toss a water balloon or egg back and forth, without breaking it. After each toss, the players who threw the balloons, take a step backwards. Younger players take shorter steps.
  • Water relay race - In this birthday party activity, players split into 2 equall matched teams. Each team sends one player at a time with a small cup of water, running while trying not to spill it, about 60 feet (20 Meters) away to fill a larger container. When the player gets back and tags the next player on his team, that player goes. The larger container should be big enough, so each player gets at least 2 or more turns for his team. You can add a few drops of food coloring to each team's water supplies for green and blue teams.
  • Three Leg Race and One Leg (hopping) Race. Get the sacks from a local coffee roaster.
  • Limbo - You can make an adjustable limbo by piling books on 2 tables and laying the stick across, or just get 2 adult volunteers to hold a broomstick. Don't forget the limbo mucic, that is the most important thing!
  • Obstacle Course - Up the ladder, across the monkey bars, down the slide, stack the wooden blocks, zig-zag around the cones, throw the soccer ball in the basketball hoop (keep trying till you get it), do 3 summersaults, ... Map it out at your house and put numbered signs at each activity. Have a stopwatch or a (big) clock with a second hand.

Pinata - Kids have a great time hitting the pinata, and you don't have to fill it with a lot of super sugary candy. Make sure everyone stands a safe distance from the activity. When the treasure spills, one way to avoid the mad grabbing dash, is to have just a few different items, and each kid only gets to have one of each type.

Scavenger hunt - You make a list of things that the kids work together as a team to find in and/or around the house. For large groups, you could split them into 2 teams and give them the same list of different lists.

Whichever activities you choose, have a great birthday party!
